Because public education in Guatemala ends at ninth grade, AdJ feels compelled to provide scholarships to students so they can continue their education in other villages. In 2017, AdJ decided to fund four students. Three of those students went on to university. Amigos de Santa Cruz provides the eligibility evaluation and monitors the students’ progress for AdJ. In return, the students are required to volunteer in Jaibalito and to act as role models for younger students. This year AdJ funded four students; one of those is nearing her university diploma in Social Work. Many of the others go on to find employment opportunities and further their careers.
Below are pictures of some of our recent scholarship students.
