Animal Spay and Neuter Project

This is a project that was started long before AdJ was founded. If you ever wander around one of the villages on Lake Atitlan, you will see a multitude of seemingly stray dogs and cats. It has become a real problem as the local animal population is exploding and many animals are left malnourished, abandoned and disease-ridden. The Jaibalito community is participating in a spay and neuter program to address this problem. The Ayuda animal clinic visits twice a year with professional veterinarians who are assisted by local Jaibalito residents. The number of animals sterilized since 2012 is over 130. Dogs and cats from Jaibalito have been spayed or neutered as well as treated for fleas, worms and vaccinated against many deadly diseases.
